When you start telling yourself the merits of Celicas, it's time to stop.

Time to stop car searching/procrastinating. Day one of exams. Here's a picture of a car I actually want.

What's wrong with Celicas?

The BP will always be the pinnacle of Legacy's in my book. So perfect.

Good luck finding a manual trans LGT wagon at a reasonable price. I would do the same if I could find a decent one without 150k miles under $10k-$12k

If you ask me, the Outback was the better looking car, but you'd need to swap the steering rack, brakes, and update the ECU so you didn't have to run those squishy tires without the speedo being off.

Oh, I've been looking for about two years haha. I sometimes think I know more about LGTs than some owners. I've found a few perfect cars (including my dream car, a Regal Blue sedan owned by a friend of mine with 60k and built for a larger turbo, but running a conservative stage 2 tune, selling for $14k), but I think that for college, what I'll need is something without the turbo and oil issues. I'm thinking about getting a 130k, post-head-gasket, post-timing belt NA Legacy wagon with a stick ('05, still with the UEL header), do exhaust and suspension, and have a fun daily that doesn't break the bank with turbo malfunctions.

But I do still love Legacy GTs.

I used to own one and sold it due to compression issues. Before you buy, I'd highly suggest a used oil analysis from Blackstone Labs- $125 in UOAs paid off huge for me, letting me know I had problems before I had to fork out a few grand for repairs.

I feel like we've talked about this before, on a thread comparing NA and GT Leggies. I'm definitely planning on using UOAs in the future thanks to that haha.

Sounds familiar. Good luck buying a Leggie- they're great cars!

What brakes does the LGT wagon have? I thought the Outback had the same brakes. My understanding was that to "de-Outbackify" an Outback you needed springs and struts and a new transmission and rear diff to fix the final drive ratio.

I felt lucky enough to find a manual BG Outback that was well maintained in my price range. I've thought about lowering it, but it's enough fun to drive as-is that I'm pretty happy to leave it.

Pic, because I love posting pics of my wagon.

The LGT has the "baby brembos". They're enormous... you NEED 17" wheels to clear them, no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

To "de-Outbackify" you do need new springs, struts, rear sway bar (I believe), steering rack, and brakes. And the OBXT takes 225/50/17s instead of 225/45/17s, so the speedometers read differently. Transmissions are the same. Not sure about the rear diff, though.

I got this hand-me-down from my wife who is now driving a shiny new Forester. I got a 17mm WRX rear sway bar that will be replacing the pinky-thin factory 13mm rear sway bar. I'll be putting WRX struts and springs on it (I believe struts are the same from model to model, but it's $50 for the whole set- can't go wrong there) so the ride isn't so bouncy, and I've thought about converting from drums to discs in the rear, but it just doesn't seem like there's a true benefit for how I use it. Oh, and I swapped in a 2004 Forester 6-disc CD changer... Totally pimped my ride! lol

I see... My BG Outback has two-pot calipers up front and I wasn't sure how that differed from the LGT brakes.

My understanding was that the Outback has steeper gearing to make up for the bigger tires, so to truly de-Outbackify, you need to either swap the gears out, or just swap the whole transmission and rear diff.

Actually I think you're right. The OBXT has a taller 5th gear to make up for the bigger tires. It's a mystery why Subaru didn't just use those taller gears on the LGT for better highway mileage
